It all started….

Since the early 1970s, Bermuda has played host to many of the world’s top international players and it all began with the Easter Classic in 1979.

This event involved just one match on Easter Sunday; the Bermuda-Irish against a Bermuda-select team. International players would fly in on a Thursday, enjoy a couple of days of Bermuda’s famous hospitality, join select Bermudian players for a game on Easter Sunday and then continue with the hospitality until they flew out on Tuesday, somewhat bleary-eyed, but with some great memories!

Many long-lasting friendships were built over the years, and in 1988, reaching out to many of those players, the first World Rugby Classic was started.

Bermuda quickly became the meeting place for many players from all around the world who had played against each other over the years, and were now given the opportunity to renew old friendships and make new ones.

Twenty-one Easter Classics and thirty-five World Rugby Classics have attracted some of the greatest names in the sport to a little island in the Atlantic…quite the legacy!
